Just a quick update.

I decided to give it another go today, the bike has stood for a week and she fired up really easily this afternoon. I kept some choke and throttle for a couple of minutes and backed off the choke and then the throttle and she idled pretty much on her own for a good 3 minutes or so. I had to give the throttle the odd twist but on the whole she held her own.

So I then took her out and she started to stutter and stall almost immediately, undeterred I carried on but after about 10 minutes of stopping and starting I came back home.

Back on the drive, she idled ok gain before misfiring and stopping.

So, my observations are that once I get up into 2nd any slight suggestion of a hill causes the power to drop and she cuts out, unless of course I drop to 1st. On the flat once it 2nd it starts to misfire and stutter, and any attempt to move up to 3rd is pointless unless going down a hill.

I have emailed the mechanic who refurbished it today and will see what he comes back with, but in the meantime I am going to start ringing around the local bike shops to see if can find someone to have a look at it for me as although I am tempted to load it in a van and send it back, I'd like someone to look at it first.

Hi Andrew, this is sounding more and more like muck or water in the bottom of the carb, or some other carb related problem. A small amount of water in the bottom of the carb will cause the symptoms you describe. Regards, Paul.

Possibly also a partially shorted plug? The modern fuel can foul plugs to an un retrievable state but they will operate until a load comes on. Just another thought to muddy the waters even more.

AndrewA, realise you are in Sheffield, but one of my mates friend in Sherburn helped me with my Enfield, after a few botched dealer repairs. He can help transport or possible come to you.

He has done a awesome job PM if you are interested in his details it sounds like its something he could do easily...
