I've voiced my opinion on electronic ignition on this forum before but I'm changing my mind.
My position has always been that there's nothing wrong with points so why complicate things.
Fact is, a friend of mine has just gone to a Boyer system and has seen definite improvement.
I think the real difference is that the advance curve is better than the very crude advance bob weights (which are either on or off basically)
So, I'm moving to the Dark Side.
We'll see what happens!

Well i'm interested Pete, must admit i've toyed with the idea..

Have also found the advance curve with the points is always a compromise and will only get worse as the mechanism wears out..

Trouble is the darn thing keeps working so have no excuse to ditch them..

Which type are you going to try? Don't forget to document/photograph for us.

Yes, keep us posted, I'm also thinking about it and always interested to hear how people get on with them.

I fitted the system this morning.
The instructions are pretty straightforward except for one confusion - the white wire from the unit goes to the + coil terminal AS WELL AS the wire that's already there.
Some way of finding TDC is required (it matters not if its compression or exhaust) and also some way of getting the rotor off. It's 5/16 BSCy and mine just came off with a suitable bolt and a bit of tapping. (Mr H flogs the proper article) All the terminals were just crimped on so I replaced them with soldered terminals, but that's just the way I was taught, probably the crimps are fine.
The bike started first kick once installed but a short ride proved that the timing was a touch advanced. I retarded it a touch and it's now better but still not quite right - further tweaking required.
The correct way to time it is with a degree disk and strobe of course but I find tweaking it works just as well.
So is it an improvement? I think the advance curve is better but it really makes not a lot of difference.

I found that just fitting new A/R springs to the points system improved acceleration when moving off from a standstill; apart from that, nothing changed.
