Is it the model with the changeable paper scales? Only I have drawn one up for an Albion 4 speed box...

Apparently John Surtees was called in to diagnose the Honda 500-4's seriously bad handling the first year on the Island. When Big John asked Mike Hailwood which gear he was in going round a particular corner, Mike's reply was 'Dunno . . . how many gears has it got?!

The Power Commander V has the ability to report which gear you're in, if the engine has a suitable sensor; apparently the EFI doesn't have one and the PCV reports just one gear. Because like I gots a PCV so I tried it. The PCV can also equate road speed to revs (different mapping for different gears), if it has a speed input; the bike speedo is cable drive so that's no use either. Ho hum.

What we do have is a neutral sensor, probably very very simple, a switch of some kind that puts a dim green light on in the speedo. It doesn't indicate false neutrals ;)

This thread has just reminded me to a response a judge in High Wycombe magistrates court got many years ago from a motorcyclist when asked the question:- "What gear were you in at the time of the accident." "My leathers your honour."
