For the felt air filter 110673 used in the "tea caddy" air filter kit 90009, the instruction for servicing is wash with petrol and re-oil. Can anyone fill in a bit more detail please? How much oil? Is engine oil OK?
I was thinking dip in clean engine oil to wet the felt all over and then drain overnight before refitting. Is that right?

In my moto crossing days I used air filter oil/fluid on the air filters, this fluid is in liquid form and is spread over the filter and when it dries it goes sticky so trapping the dirt, the brand that I used was Putolene action fluid, but there is other brands.

One thing about natural felt is its ability to filter air by attracting and holding positively charged ionized dust particles. No need for oils, simply blow it clean from time to time, and wash it out in warm soapy water if need be.

Wrong oil (too thick) applied will block the matrix. If 90009 is being fitted to a 500, be aware that the Tea Caddy filter box and element was designed and interned for the smaller 350. Dont expect the bike to have scorching acceleration at higher speeds

I think dipping it in engine oil would be far too much. You can buy aerosol air filter oils. A spray with that would be more appropriate IMO
