No, the Indian emission regs are nowhere near as stringent. My guess is that they need the additional plug to achieve complete combustion of what to us would be the equivalent of pool petrol. + 1 on the daft idea of checking the oil level with the engine running....

Andy, I wouldn't take a chisel to the cat as it could effect the running. You have to be careful with aftermarket exhausts as with a lot of them you need to either remap the ECU or change to a Power Commander. The best solution is fit our hosts 91080 as its road legal, good English chrome (!) and doesn't require remapping.

Fitted a 91080 silencer to my B5 just this morning - purely to allow more clearance at the rear whilst manoeuvring it out of the shed!
So off I went out for a bit of spirited test ride and managed to grind some of that shiny new chrome off on the first decent fast right hander I came to - not a happy bunny :(

This silencer with its straight hanging bracket sits it about 3/8" further out from the centre line than the OEM unit on my bike. When it was cool enough I applied some pressure to the outside edge of the silencer which expectedly bent the hanging strap and moved the silencer inwards which managed to keep it out of trouble for the rest of the ride. Certainly something to take into consideration during fitting.
