My partners and my bike differ from the parts manual on the rear brake diagram, we both have 05 Electra's.
according to the diagram the rear wheel spindle enters from the right and the 24mm castelleated nut is on the left, on both our bikes its the other way round and the distance collar on the left is not on my bike, havent looked at partners?
So to clarify, on my bike the rear wheel spindle is passing through from the left and the shoulder is butting up against the 30mm nut that tightens onto the short spindle that locks the cam adjuster, the distance collar on the wheel side isnt there? i will have to recheck when im back in garage at partners?

My Electra X had the rear wheel spindle the wrong way around when I purchased it. The nut and R clip should be on the offside not the kerbside. (The wrong way fouls the brake rod and lever.)

On some the spindle is shown on the Rear Brake Page and on other models on the Rear Wheel or Rear Hub page. The split pin (R-clip) is generally shown on the outside of the brake, on that side. Whether that is left or right, it goes on that side so the wheel can be dropped out leaving the brake and drive sprocket attached to the swinging arm.

Yes the spindle can be put in from the other side but that is not how the assembly diagram shows it, castellated nut on the outside of the 'nut, rear hub spindle', and it is also there to act as a lock nut for the brake plate.

It should not foul the brake rod, if it does then Lever Brake Operating (part 9) may need moving on its splines. That lever should be at right angles to the drum diameter when full engaged to apply maximum leverage pressure i.e rather a long way back when free.

Jefrs, I am 67 years old, and have been wielding spanners for most of my life. I can spot when something has been fitted the wrong way around. It is a quick release wheel, fitted the wrong way around the wheel spindle has to be fully removed, the right way round it doesn't

Just had a look at every Electra on eBay ( any year) and the castellated nut and split pin is on the right on every bike? but some have ( later models) the brake/chain on right so makes sense but not for older ones?
