Hello Comrades



I am about to Change the Disk Pads on a Electra X Type Unit ( and Clean the pistons up a Bit) .But cannot spot much info on them.



*Once having swung out the whole caliper unit,

I presume you just remove the :PIN BOLTS part 560594 and the Pads Drop out??

Am I right?? And is they anything unexpected to look out for? (Different to other Disk set ups)

I changed new pads - which were of course thicker than the old worn ones and had to remove brake fluid from the system to get some room for them: I had forgotten how laborious the bleeding process was!

Just that rubbing on glass paper is a really good way to embed grit into the pads, you don't want to do that. Clean yuck with brake cleaner spray. Wear new gloves handling the new pads to keep grease and crud off the pads. They will wear flat very nicely on the disc as they bed in.

Squeezing the pistons back (gas pliers with the old pads in) should be sufficient without draining the system - clear plastic pipe into a small jamjar of brake fluid normally keeps air out of the pistons. A syringe for putting fluid into the master cylinder is useful. Once all nicely assembled bleeding only takes a couple of minutes. A lot of the air rises to the master cylinder, the bleed nipple is at the top so air comes out easily. Protect the tank from brake fluid spills!

Difficult? - the Volvo 245 had 13 bleed points to be done in the correct order, with the wheels off and the body jacked up.
