Hi Bullet comrades
hope you can help me with this one. Bullet 500 kick-start 2003
* on compression stroke at BTDC
* base-plate turned clockwise to full stop (to base plate securing screw in leftmost slot position)

Points are already a fraction open; Turning base plate anticlockwise open points further to set 0.4mm.

A) is this right or should points actually close when turning anticlockwise?

I had a rattle in the timing case last week - only once; could this have something to do with it?

B) I tried to alter the position of the cam - took off the base plate and undid the Allen-key bolt; The cam moves freely forward but springs and auto-advance unit do not come with it - do I need the special tool for this? Is this the right approach anyway to this problem?

Thanks for your time - hope you can shine a light on this

thanks Exile; I have read the technical note; my tentative conclusion is: I am definitely on compression stroke - had this independently confirmed; points are still closing while they should be opening; previous rattle in timing case points towards cogs worn and /or out of sink; I should open timing case to check; I want to re-set cam first as step one - do I need the special tool for this? I hope somebody can advise me on both points. Cheers.Fredo
