I have a RE EFI 500 2008 which died on me a couple of years ago and now I want to get it back on the road. Unfortunately, my knowledge and ability with engines is at best limited and I don't feel confident tackling this type of job. Is there anyone out there who knows of a keen restorer/amateur mechanic who could help me?

Cheers

A few details of how it died would be great. Did it stop while riding or did it fail to start one day?.
Im near Kelso and was a mechanic most of my life, so possibly might be able to offer some help if no one is closer

Thanks Boxerman. Davie Hall, I was just north of Spean Bridge when it happened. Over a few day it had been making some grumbling noises which felt like they were coming from the bottom end, after crossing the Calendonian Canal Bridge the noise became very bad, sounded like someone was shaking a bag of spare parts, and then the was no power so I pulled in to a lay-by and waited for the others I was travelling with. I remember opening the throttle to let them hear the noise. When I got it back I started looking at the top of the engine and there were no signs of damage there, however when I removed the sump plug it looked like Dennis the Menace, filings all over it. It has now sat in my garage since and I would to get her back on the road. It is not worth a huge amount and so I can't really spend a fortune getting it fixed. I should learn how to fit it myself but am a bit worried I'll get so far and have a box of bits and no idea how to put it back.
Cheers for responding.

Hi Tom. Have a look at eBay item number 262365923775. I know it's not a perfect fix, but if the price is right it would a viable repair option.
