Great minds think alike Geoff. Just got back from checking bob weights which are returning OK, so stripped and cleaned the carb. No sign of anything amiss. float not leaking and adjusted correctly. All back together and tickover/ slow running mixture adjusted. Seems OK sitting on it's stand in the garage. I'll go for a spin tomorrow and see how she performs in the real world.
Gwilly, the pulse air valve was removed by PO. The only evidence of it is an ugly looking blanking plug near the top of the exhaust pipe. No sign of redundant parts on carb.
Thanks all, Wilf.

What type of carb? I had the same issue with my 350 with a 389 Amal and it turned out the slow running jet was too big. I could never get a reliable idle and if I did it would stall as soon as I opened the throttle to move off. With a reduced idle circuit jet the idle adjustment screw became far more position sensitive and the idle is now as steady as a rock.

If you haven't fixed it with carb strip etc, then time to check the electricals..

Wonder if the Eurika is at all voltage sensitive like the old boyer used to be... At the traffic lights you may have lights on, brake light, maybe even turn signals..

Might be worth checking the voltage AC and DC at tickover to eliminate a weak alternator or over performing regulator. The later could be disconnected for test purposes..

A corroded main frame earth can throw up all sorts of odd symptoms.. Like i said its a long list and it depends sometimes on which end you start as to how quick you find the fault..

Try and observe anything which seems to aggravate the problem..

For what it's worth, I'm on my second EFI and both have done exactly the same.
