From an old post, heres wa list of tools to carry, and all this fits in the tool box...

All, having done the regular check that all nuts are tight on Bertie I have written a list on spanners and other tools used and what I carry in my tool bag, I thought it might be useful to others, these should be enough to get you out of most troubles...................................................................................................................... Front hub, brake side 25mm , Speedo side 24mm - Front brake 17mm, 10mm, 8mm - Front mudguard 13mm - Engine mounts 13mm - Primary chain 18mm, 11mm - Front Foot rest 17mm - Rear brake pedal 15mm - Rear foot rest 18mm - Rear 15/16" - hub Rear wheel 18mm - Rear brake lever 18mm - Rear brake adjuster 13mm - Chain guard 13mm - Rear shocks 17mm - Seat posts 14mm - Army bars 12mm - Kick start 13mm - Amal carb inlet manifold 14mm, carb 13mm, carb cable adjustments 8mm - Exhaust 21mm, 14mm, 13mm - Petrol tank 15mm - Clutch adjuster lock nut 17/32" socket - Also found some 13mm are a bit loose, 1/2" works well on these .......................... Among other tools are some box spanners, a double ended screw driver, a stubby screw driver with various ends, feeler gauge, pliers, gaffa tape (in case a bracket breaks), Stanley knife, spare cables......................Im sure there are other handy bits that ive missed, please add to the list if you can think of any.........................regards....Just enjoy the ride.

Hi Geoff
Thanks for your reply and comment much appreciated, The seat I put on along with the sparto light and smaller indicators which were from eBay, the seat did come from our hosts part No91475 SINGLE SEAT, TRIALS TYPE, LEATHER *Please note that the exact style may differ slightly from the photo* £75.00
This one is unsprung and I also put the electric cover underneath ( the plastic one) the scrambles seat looks bigger and also dearer.
Bertie thank you for your great list I'll get sorted today/ tomorrow as from Wednesday I'll be on the road for the the first time with a bullet, although I've been riding since mid sixties, really looking forward to it, thanks again for your help .

I'll note that seat thanks Steve.
As regards tools I'm of the credit card, well charged mobile phone, paid up recovery sub and a few cable ties school, but my unstinting admiration and respect goes out to those confident and competent enough to be more self sufficient. But then I only do day rides. I'm quite happy to do most jobs on the bike, but in my garage please!
Don't get paranoid about breakdowns though. I've been riding Indian Enfields since 2001 and only just had my first instance of needing recovery and that was a puncture and I don't think that's unusual. Given good maintenance, (but not too much "fiddling"!) and riding within the machine's limits you'll be fine. Hope the sun shines on Weds. Let us know how you find your bike. G
