Mauri.. not all of use have had years experience kicking a big single.. so when we find something that works, its got to be good right?

I'm 53 and have had over 35 bikes..but none since I was 17 that needed to be kicked. ita learning curve, but I'm enjoying it.

simple way to raise tickover whilst putting on jacket/gloves/helmet is loop a stout elastic band around twistgrip and front brake lever. This acts as a friction control on the throttle. Using this method, by the time I've got togged up the bike is happy to tick over as it should, once I release the elastic band.

I have a late model 08 4 speed classic.
Pull clutch in free plates by kicking over.
Tickle carb till it floods.
Up to compression, open throttle slightly, assured swing (as if on a velocette)
Choke open ie not on
This is an AMal Mk1 30mm carb with open bellmouth
And bang she starts
Forget electronic ignition just not needed, more cost more gubbins more to go wrong
Points are perfect and have worked for decades
