Decisions, decisions. About 18 months ago, I completed a rebuild of the engine after the main bearings went, replacing the big end, oil pump spindle and a whole lot more in the process. Up to now the gearbox has been pretty good with only the odd missed change and minimal outer case flexing. I'm wondering whether to do a full strip and rebuild with new bushes bearings, pawl and maybe close ratio gears to bring it up to the standard of the engine.

John I have rebuilt many of these boxes and in most cases the bushes are not too bad, I usually just put a set of bearings in them and then fill the box with oil, no problems. One thing I have found with fitting the close ratio gearset is that you have to grind a bit off the kickstart spindle to allow it to fit inside the new layshaft high gear, because it is slightly smaller in diameter that the original, apart from that it is a good modification
