You read any manual for any vehicle and they all specify special tools and if you are doing a lot of work on that particular vehicle you can justify the expense but you can get around the tools, jam rag in the chain to undo the rotor and clutch nuts, bit of 1/8th inch plate, drill 3 holes in it to suit the clutch basket studs, and a 10mm hole in the middle 10 set screw and a nut and you have a clutch puller and usually you can get the rotor and engine sprockets off without a puller

I agree Norm, I have had manuals specify special tools that don't even exist although they have a serial number.

I find a bit of brass rod and careful use of a hammer cover most eventualities, as does using wood wrapped in rag to "clog up the works."

I have to admit to buying bits from India. Might take a couple of weeks to get here, but everything's been as advertised so far.
I'll be I putting the gearing up idea on hold for a while after today's ride when I realised most of my riding involves 'B' or unclassified roads with a fair amount of hills. I'd probably spend most of the time in third gear!
