Hi Dennis, only had a short ride with the Mitas fitted, five miles or so. Seems much better than the Avon SM it has replaced, especially on poorly surfaced farm track where I live. I'm running it at 26psi. Don't expect it to be great in the wet, but I'm a bit of a fair-weather rider if truth be told.I'll keep you posted after a longer ride at the weekend.

By the way, the old Avon was the original tyre, ten years old,15,000kms travelled and fairly down at heel, though still legal.

Hi guys----------WILF, a 10 year old tyre still being used ?? Tut-tut.....that should have been changed 5 years ago on average...NORM and Co. have that as a legal requirement I believe ?..........The Ballooning sounds more like a weak sidewall rather than any damage you may have inflicted....... I'm a strong believer in fitting matched tyres ( as in from the same manufacturer's range) because like the front and rear suspension they have to compliment one another........................My late friend Tim's 1938 Model C has the same set-up as described by JOJJE and Ive posted the photos on here a couple of times now.......Mitas are a Checkoslovakian firm ( http://www.mitas-tyres.com/ ) and were linked with BARUM at one time ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barum_(company) )---------------My Grass-Track and Speedway tyres were BARUM's with the blocks "knifed" to give more flexing ribs..( Ah, but I was a young "Dude" then )....

Okay your honour, guilty as charged, but in mitigation,
when I bought my bullet five years ago she only had 3000kms on the clock, and I never really gave much thought to her tyres. Time rolled on, tread wore down and I replaced the front rubber a couple of years ago with a Metzeler, chosen after extensive research because it was the only one I could afford. Same story with the Mitas. Hope to go for a decent ride over the weekend and report back.

Sorry for the delay chaps, had a little run yesterday, about thirty miles. Not a marathon and all in the dry, but for anyone who's interested I found the new Mitas back tyre fine. Don't know how it'll be in the wet,but can't fault it on a dry road.
