If found the best way is too measure the old oil I've removed in an old kitchen jug I keep for these purposes of oil changes. Then when replacing put same amount back as removed. Then run engine for a few minuets and to circulate then stop it and let it settle for 10 mins then check and top up if necessary half way between marks never had problems that way.

You don't really need to undo the front two on a routine oil change. There shouldn't be much comes out of there as it's a dry sump engine. As mentioned, there will be quite a bit left in the timing chest though.

There appears to be nothing "routine" about the oil change in this instance. At least I have now cured the oil leak.
A compression washer that actually fitted plus lock tight on both threads and the job is a good-up.
I am reluctant to mess about with the bike too much as I am getting 90mpg. So the PVA is staying.
