Hi,
I have a after market exhaust silencer fitted to my classic efi 500, (similar to the universal silencer but this is off a triumph)
and i get lots of popping when decelerating, also found plug to have black soot on it when replacing, Was wondering if i should
install a Dynojet power commander to fix this, or is there a easier fix?

I have almost exactly the same problem with my Hitchcocks aftermarket silencer... not checked my plug though. Would be keen to hear of a cheap/free fix!!!

Air leak at exhaust port. Seal the pipe with silicone sealant, leave it overnight to fully cure before starting engine. Job done at minimal cost.
Now check your plug after a run and let us know the result please.

For the sake of clarity I should have said - refit the pipe using silicone sealant to ensure an airtight joint leaving it overnight to fully cure before starting engine.

When I replaced the head on my Sixty5, i used the orange silicon sealant. The pipe only goes into the head about 8mm (5/16") and as can be seen by soot marks around the pipe it is leaking slightly. The bike has started to pop on overrun because of sucking in air around the joint. I intend to modify things to get the pipe a better fit into the port as I did on my Superstar a few years ago. Now there was a quick Enfield!.
