Hi.

I have just started the rebuild of my 2004 500 Bullet engine and as I take it apart I am making a list of parts I need to replace. I have just removed the rocker covers and found that it has 3 gaskets on each rocker cover this does not seem right to me. Any idea why?

Thanks Eddie.

When I removed my rocker covers on my 2003 Sixty5, there were 2 gaskets on my covers. Don't know what is standard, but I just replaced 1 on each. Havn't heard rockers hitting covers!

Hi. I must admit that was the only thing I was thinking could be the reason behind it.

Thanks.

Generally this is because of a poor fitting between the cover and the head. I have used silicon on my rocker cover gaskets in order to get an oil tight seal. So far they are dry as a bone.

Often not a great seal here and that looks like the reason for a surfeit of gaskets.
Things can be greatly improved by flatting both surfaces but you need the head off and the valve gear stripped off for that.
