I want to thank everyone for there input on the above prob ,Mark, no luck with the starting yes there is a nice fat spark at the plug i honesly think there is an underlying problem with the ign timing its always been a problem i have lost count the number of times i have reset it( checked it time and time again)

Nellie, please don't take this the wrong way but it's no good assuming the problem lies in a particular area, carb, ignition etc. It's much better to be systematic and eliminate one thing at a time. It doesn't help that your description of the symptoms is so vague. Is there anyone you know who could help, diagnosis by email is not really practical! REgards, Mark

Hi Nellie.The three things that have to be present to get it to start is spark, fuel and compression. You have a good spark so I would take the plug out and pour about a tablespoon of petrol into the engine, replace the spark plug and see if it shows signs of wanting to start. If so then you need to check that fuel is getting to the carburettor and also clean out the carburettor as perhaps one of the jets or channels in the jet block are not open. Good luck. Worries me that you say you have to set the timing often as it should not change by itself so easily.
