If you remove the inner ratchet cover and if you can get somebody to slowly rotate the rear wheel and you hold the inner ratchet in place you can shift through the gears and you can see where the inner ratchet is not picking up the next gear. The only adjustment on the box is the adjuster plate, you can move this back and forth and continue shifting through the gears and hopefully you might solve it. Often I can't solve it so I then resort to welding and grinding the inner ratchet. Using this method you can get nice smooth precise gear change but it isn't an easy option and not for somebody without this sort of ability, and I have done it on many occasions, but then I have also spent several days working on some boxes to get them right after some Indian with a hammer and chisel has been in there
