Thanks Norm I will use your test. Getting oil from the chaincase breather too.
Alan R thanks for the advice re the Bullet 65 engine. May need to raid the kids inheritance. Is the starter OK on this ie no weak sprag?

Graham, Sprag the same. When you say the crank case breather, have you drilled the under barrel breather out?

Norm: it has a pipe from the primary chaincase and one from the top of the oil tank/gearbox and breather from timing case.

Graham, primary case shouldn't put anything out, breather from the timing cover shouldn't either because it should have a duckbill on it inside the timing chest. That only leaves the oil tank breather for oil to be coming from, as I said run a clear plastic hose ditectly up from the breather and up under the seat and then you can see if and how much oil is being lifted up. At one stage I ran the tube out to the rear and fitted a small bottle on the end so I could monitor how much oil was being carried over
