Might be a long shot this...."Put on a new coil and the problem went away only to start again and get worse"...is it possible that you have a wire shorting out maybe against the frame and you disturbed it when fitting the new coil and it has vibrated back to its original position. Maybe as engine revs go up it shorts out again. We had a similar problem years ago with a B40 which was eventually traced to a feed wire for the coil which had an internal break in the copper core that separated enough to cause a misfire at higher revs but connected again at lower revs, took ages to find it! As the problem went away for a short while after changing the coil I would examine that area for possible solutions. Ian

Had a similar problem with my bullet last year, turned out to be a dodgy condenser.

Thanks folks- points seem pretty good- gave them a cursory clean before going home from work on Friday last and it seemed to make no difference- however- my journey home that day involved a lot of short rides between regular stops with the engine idling for 5 mins or so as I was putting up direction signs for a charity cycle ride the next day- after the last sign was up I set off for home and the fickle beggar had sorted itself out and ran cleanly... I think Ian Martin's synopsis is probably right & I'll give the loom and connections a close inspection. Also ordering new points. All the best & thanks again.
