If only our hosts could come up with a alternator crank fired system , it for one thing gets rid of the pinion gear sets which have a lot of slop .

Yes Phil, you would only need the trigger at the crank.
Not rocket science.

Maybe the answer is the six wire alternator off the Indian market 350 AVL Machismo and Thunderbird models, one of the stator windings appears to be ignition only, for a crank mounted trigger using the standard alternator mountings, the rest of it seems to be wired as a four-wire alternator. I haven't seen a wiring diagram for these models, but if the ignition winding chucks out enough juice to run up the TCI box and coil you might have what amounts to an electronic flywheel magneto with some reasonable lighting coils thrown in. If our hosts don't stock them, they are available from certain Indian suppliers on a well known auction web site.

I looked into the possibility of fitting the Royal Enfield crank mounted ignition/charging system, but it does involve changing the drive side shaft, or the complete crankshaft. An easier way is to fit the Electrex kit, which is listed as ignition only for the Bullet ( and showing as out of stock at the moment) but within the Electrex range is a set up with charging coils to replace the Lucas alternator on BSA B40 etc single cylinder range. I did ask Electrex. If. this kit would fit the 500 Bullet, they said yes it would.
Worth a look I think.
