That was supposed to read thin not thing. Bless my Apple iPad because it knows what I really mean and so thoughtfully corrects my spelling even when it's wrong.

Thanks Simon for your experience. I was talking to a pal at REOC clubnight last night and he said he'd had excellent results using a silicon based Turtlewax product so I'll try that first. Thanks and REgards, Mark

Mark if you simply use an adhesive vinyl decal then I wouldn't put any coating over it.Make sure your tank is clean and free from polish in the area of the decal before you apply it. Remember that if it does subsequently become damaged or scratched etc etc, all you need to do is warm it with a hair dryer and it will come straight off, thus allowing you to fit another. Simples. MadMikes Gathering is Sunday 15th June. Will you be there?

Mark, I terrible problems with the trying to lacquer over the new vinyl stickers. I tried two different aerosol products and professional painter also tried two spray lacquers (cellulose and a two pack). All of them reacted with the glue rather than the sticker surface. So I gave up and got the painter to air brush the badges (made an excellent job as the whole tank can then be lacquered). Richard

Thanks Richard, I'm going to experiment with some offcut material on a hidden portion of the tank just out of curiosity but my main plan is to leave it as is, ie, no finishing. I have a set of original waterslides I got off Ebay so I can always do that!

Hi ! Has anyone made their own water slide decals ?? ...

I am awaiting some inkjet decal paper to make some for my Bike ( ebay ) or you can get clear decal paper , Obviously you can't make gold or silver ones but if you use a white inkjet paper, then once dry give them a couple of coats of clear acrylic laquer before using them, once in place and dry you should be able to gradually build up coats of clear laquer to seal them in finishing off with a petrol resistant laquer I know Halfords sell it ... just a thought ??
