So not fuel, not carb, not TCI - I changed the plug and Frank you were right it started and is running fine. So question is why does a working plug break down over winter? I leave that question for others to answer but to you all thank you for your helpful advice. Finally does anyone get depressed why your bike stops working and overjoyed when it runs? Thanks again everyone.

Glad it's all sorted and was the cheaper cause. Perhaps it was that short run after the winter lay up that did it in. Rich mixture from cold, bit of wet sumping oil not getting the chance to be burnt off maybe.

Graham, I shudder to think how much the spark plugs on mine cost me. Quite a number were iridium as well, didn't seem to last any longer

Norm it seems to be a very strange phenomena on these bikes. I can't remember having the same problem with my A10,Triton, FT500, DRZ400 and to be so terminal. Was it like this with the original Redditch Royal Enfield Bullets? Never mind I have learnt my lesson now and will carry loads of spare plugs. All the best, Graham
