The filter I am referring to is not the main, big felt one that gets replaced during a service, but the one at the front underside right side of the crankcase. It looks like a drain plug, but if you remove it, you will see it is a guaze filter. The scavenge oil pump draws oil from the crankcase through this, so if it gets clogged, the crankcase may 'wet sump'. It only takes a couple of minutes to get this out and check it is clear.
