Never thought I would get asked this question, but my 700 Meteor cams are in a machine shop to be resurfaced & ground, and the cam grinder asked me which way the cam rotates as you are looking at the drive gear, clockwise or anticlockwise?
I have never had this engine running, so I couldn’t give him a definite answer and I wasn’t able to find anything written about it in the workshop manual either.
But given that the cam drive gears are held in place by bolts with a left hand thread, I couldn’t imagine the cams rotating any other way other than clockwise as you look at the timing gear.
Before he grinds the cam, can anyone just clarify this for me please?

I don't know why they'd want to know this if they are just refacing the original profile but, if you look at the timing chest the crank rotates clockwise and both cams are driven by a single chain from a sprocket on the crank so the answer is, clockwise, QED.
How's the rest of it going?

Hi guys---------from what I can remember from my Apprentice days at the drawing board, you drew a cam profile in reverse direction to it's intended use....but a modern grinder (for re-surfacing) should follow any profile automatically, or so I thought....Interesting !!

Thanks for the info once again.
Mark the bike is coming along slowly, but steadily, I have managed to source most of the parts I need, aside from the front & rear mudguards, rear 7" brake drum and rear 7" brake assembly.

Dookie, I have a complete rear wheel sitting here, the cush ring is missing and the 3 cush ring studs are broken. The wheel belongs to the Anthony the Club Membership Officer but I don't know if he would sell it to a non member. You can contact him through the Club website front page.

Hi Norm.
I contacted the Hitchcock's team, who were very helpful and managed to find a rear 7" brake drum & brake assembly for me.
I was starting to worry that I would never find these, so many thanks for the lead.
