finished breaking in my 350 rebuild and was climbing a rather steep hill in 3rd gear, as 4th just bogged down. throttle open, heard a scraping noise from the motor which was accompanied by temporary loss of power. the sound only lasted a few seconds and the power quickly returned. bike has run great ever since and has climbed that same hill again. no oil loss, no smoke, plug looks great. any need to open it up and take a look, or should I just go about my business.

I'd check the alternator rotor for witness marks and the primary case for the same in case the clutch basket is loose. Generally the self healing process is a temporary one, in my experience anyway.

Could be a partial seizure but if it's not smoking you might have got away with it. If it's working OK now I'd leave well alone. Perhaps be gently for another couple of hundred miles.
