Hi

Any one have a solution to my problem of the trottle twist grip going past the stop point when shutting down the revs? I have replaced the housing one alread, and has happened again. Is there a metal alternative?

Hi Andrew, nothing wrong with the plastic twist grips, there must be another reason for this happening. You could JB Weld a piece of plastic in there to at least salvage your second one

555, I think I misunderstood your post - please ignore.

Is there a loose ferule (slotted metal sleeve) on the throttle end of the cable? Amal type throttle housings need this part to prevent the cable over-running the throttle rotor. It is easily lost when doing cable maintenance. I don't know if Indian bikes are like this, I can't see it in the parts list for 2003 65. REgards, Mark

But my guess is that the rotor inside the twist grip body is going past its normal stop position as you close the throttle (ie turn it anti-clockwise). If it is that then I'd think a new twist grip is the only answer.

Durr, thanks Presto! I was looking at the wrong end of the handlebar, I'm more used to the Redditch parts books which show everything the other way round! I have had exactly this problem when the ferule has dropped out, when it's missing the throttle cable nipple can roll past the usual stopping point as there's no positive stop on the rotor itself.

Thanks presto, you have the problem understood. Is there an alternative twist grip, with metal bits inside. I have had teh same problem twice now, and it may be cheaper to get a better set up. I have put a bit of tape arroud the fereal to stop it being lost

Hi 555 - glad we're on the right track. The standard part ought to work OK. The problem if you change to a metal twist grip is that you'll probably need a different throttle cable. I'd go for a new standard item, and put a smear of silicon grease on it when you fit it new.
