Thanks Simon - I did make a small adjustment before I left work last night, and that has certainly improved things! Before it used to slip in top gear particularly if I wasn't gentle with the throttle... now I can tighten up the primary chain and leave thing well alone. Until the next time.

Hi Norm Just a thought. I have a 6yr old from new Iron 500 which is used every day. The clutch has never been touched or modified only a little adjustment of the cable after bedding in. It takes up the drive smoothly, doesn't slip or drag and selects neutral easily when stopped. In fact it works as well as my Norton and BMW clutches. As a consequence the gears change, if a little slow, better than the Norton. What am I doing wrong ?

Marsie, wish I knew, some work well but when you have ones that don't want to play ball they are a pig and the design of the Albion gearbox lever just doesn't give enough margin for something not being a 100%. The other frustrating problem is the inner cable in the clutch cable is usually 15mm too short to allow you to get max lift on the plates. The 5 speed clutches are a better setup except for the weal 3 ball plate which fails

Norm. From your post I assume the problem you experience is insufficient lift leading to drag. I have three 4sp Enfields, 2 Redditch & 1 Indian. From what I can see the G/B and Clutch parts are all pretty much the same and therefore should work the same. The cable problem is easy, just buy some new inner and remake to the correct length. End float on the main shaft nil, plates flat etc. I suspect you know all this. Lastly, Oil! As Leon says, ATF is too grippy. Good for hauling a ton and a half of car about. Straight 20 or 30 is OK but in my experience there are better specialist oils available.
