Bought new EBC front brake pads for the Electra X. They are obviously much wider.

Is it worth getting the 'brake calliper reset tool' and 'siphon' bottle? Or should I just ask the garage to replace them before the MOT?

Hi Lee,...Before an Expert Comes on Here (Who May Well be Right)..IF My Brakes Where ok but Just Worn and The Disk is OK... I Would Just Fit The NEW PAD's.. Which is Not to Hard And No Special Tools required (Bit Of Wood & Old Screwdriver aside)...I Think That artical is Aimed at "Racy Hi Powered Bikes??" .... But On Simple Enfields and Most Old Jap Bike's I Have Owned Its Been a simple Task With Out Messing With The Brake Fluid or re-Setting anything...As Long as All seemed well Before and You have No Leaks..PLUS Be carefull For The First few Miles as They Bed In (The New Pad's again).. They MUST BE a Nice Simple Guide Out there on The Web some where, So Dont Panic and Now wait for an Expert ;0)..

Hi guys------ I'm NO EXPERT ok?? but generally write-up my experiences and leave you chaps to decide for yourself....... Having said that much, let's get stuck in, eh ??----- So, if your new pads are NOTICEABLY bigger then chances are you've got the wrong ones..... I believe that EBC pads have a sintered bronze make-up which helps heat dissipation...Alas, they also help to increase disc rotor wear rates....and they're not cheap to replace (£60 I believe ??)--- On my Classic 500 iron engined machine I use ARMSTRONG organic pads and find they suit my style and riding conditions..... Lee, when you say wider do you mean bigger overall or just thicker wher the brake material is . If this is the case I would hope so seeing they are new. Couple of things to do, cover the tank with a cloth/sheet, loosen the screws on top of the master cylinder, remove the caliper, remove the outer disc pad and with a 4 inch "G"clamp over the caliper press the caliper piston back all the way home back into the caliper. Just watch as you are doing this brake fluid can get spilt from the master cylinder which is the reason for the cloth over the tank. Any flid spilt on paintwork wash off immediately

I don't think i'm quite on a par with you yet Alan although my bike is determined to give me a thorough course in maintenance. Still what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?? (P.S - how much are RE's worth in scrap???)
