I read an article recently that says if you want to upgrade to 12 volts that by fitting a 12 volt rec reg unit to a 6 volt alt it will charge 12 volts. I might have to go back and re read the article and take it in properly. Does anybody know what A/C voltage I should expect from a 6 volt alt, similar to a 12 volt alt? 30 volts A/C? If this is the case I still don't understand how this coil switching operates, is it done through the headlight switch? and if so how does it do it?

Yes you can simply rectify the 30 volts AC to twelve volts DC but there is I believe a drop in Wattage. Something to do with v=I/R or watts =volts x amps or some such thing. I have to say I have lovely bright lights on the Bitsa and you can always hunt round for a quartz halo bulb. If it was electric start I'd change it but of course I also have mag ignition so I don't have a horrid ignition switch.
