I finally got that blasted enfield running today! Sounds pretty fruity on straight thru megaphone with next to no baffling, might chuck some loft insulation in there for MOT...
Anyway, I'm a bit uncertain about the oil feed to the top end. I wound it over until oil came out the spindles before starting. After several bursts of running, starting round 10 seconds then building up to a minute or two, oil is coming out the spindles/pivots but not very much. Should I expect lots of oil to be coming out the rockers, or not much?
There is plenty coming out the return pipe in the tank. Maybe the pressure valve needs loooking at?

Second, the amal monobloc has a tiny hole on the underside of the flange, that mounts to the head. I only noticed cos after it stopped exhaust fumes came out. Should it be there? I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow.

Finally, any tips on running in?

Hello GREENBAT, -------- glad you've got it going at last !! I'm not well versed with the Crusader as such but, as with any running - in I would increase your main jet by about 5 to 10 % until the engine has loosened up.....don't want all that lovely work seizing on you, eh ??

Greenbat, well done! Top end oiling sounds ok, I'm guessing you did clean out all the crankcase oilways as per Jack Gray's article (in Technical Notes here on this site?). For peace of mind you might want to replace the pressure relief valve ball bearing and spring, this line feeds the rockers. It's under a screw head in the top of the filter cavity. The hole in the carb is meant to be there, leave it alone! Be great to see some pics!
