has anyone else had a problem with the front disc brake on a new 500 bullet sticking when the bike has been stood for a while, making it very hard to even move the front wheel round? And any hints as to how to free it up before riding, please?

although this problem should be sorted out by the dealer , check the clearance on the pushrod between the lever and the cyl , as there must be some clearance for the pads

Hi GW, how new? My caliper is forever sticking in the EFI, but a few pumps of the lever and a hundred yards of riding frees it off. It sticks if left for more than a week or so, or if riden in bad weather (which is often in Scotland!!). The caliper slider is often the source of sticking, and the pins holding the pads in place can be at fault too. I strip and clean my caliper every couple of months now, and it only takes 15 min or so. Not ideal, but I see it as part of the hobby :)

Tapping the calliper gently with a wooden mallet can free it up.

This is a tip given to me by a proper bike mechanic, not a page from "Ed the bike bodger's 137 uses for a hammer".

i have a disc break on my electra and sometimes it stands for weeks and has never stuck, ridden through some of the worst weather imaginable yesterday snow torrential rain etc no sticking ,although when i came into ownership of the said electra i serviced the caliper properly !!without a single hammer!!although i have serviced more of this style of caliper than i,ve had smokes today as they appear on a multitude of 2 wheelers,my advise is if its not in warranty strip the lot down clean and lubricate where necessary when i say lubricate i mean sparingley with copper slip, pins sliders&caliper pistons but not the friction material atb paul .
