Hi Alan R,
Just read your reply to jack, tyres fitted to my machine are Avon speedmaster Mk2, can't find any reference marks to indicate lightest point, so I will have another go at balancing again.
Cheers.

Hello JACK---------- sorry, have just re-read your posting and now understand what you mean, ie to true-up the rim without removing the wheel assy. from the forks---------HOWZIE, it could just be that the mark has been scrubbed off ?? It doesn't really matter because at the end of the day you are going to balance the whole assy. anyway...putting the lightest point by the valve just helps keep the total amount of weight used down to a minimum....

Hi guys----------- just for interest sake you can actually work out the Heavy/light spot on an unmarked tyre yourself...Using the wheel balancer as before but without the tyre on ie rim plus inflated inner tube...........using your weights etc, set this up to be NEUTRAL balance ie it stops randomly at any place at all------- now fit the tyre and allow to come to rest.. Over 3 or 4 tests it should come to rest at the SAME place each time..This is the heavy spot...the light spot will be half the number of spokes away...
