Hi guys------- GWILLY, don't scrap that, matey ""---- it CAN be repaired and re-used...If you don't want it give it to me--I'll gladly pay the P&P...It appears from the photo that the "feet" were not making contact properly with the G'box casing, ie a gap was there when the cap was in contact with the shaft, thus putting a clamping load along the whole length of the cap....Although I have just posted a vid. about Aluminium Brazinz, personally I'd deep-Vee both sides then TIG-Weld ..and into a Vert. miller and a Ball-nosed end-mill to finish at rad. and depth (Plus a few "thou" for that proper fit I've just mentioned.....

Hi Alan R. Spot on as usual... Had the outer case off to fit SIMONS excellent clutch/case flex gizmo.

Thought to strip and clean clutch actuator assy as grease nipple appeard to be blocked.

Undid the two bolts and the bearing cap fell into two pieces as pictured.

Mr H supplied new for only £3.00 next morning and i undertook the simple task of reassembly.

One hour later i had finished filing and lapping in the cover to the shaft.????

Honestly there was a 2mm gap between the two halves with the pivot in place.

You can imagine what would of happened if the bolts had been tightened.

By all means send your address to ([email protected]) and i will pop the remnants in an envelope for you to practice welding on.... P&P Don't be daft, my pleasure.

ps As you where correct then you have to post a pic of something enfield.... Not GWR saddle tank loco.

Hi guys----------- GWILLI, item arrived in post this morning-------- will make up a repair/machining jig this weekend, then present it to my Tig Welder during the coming week....I've not had that gearbox cover off before so is there enough space for me to upgrade the cap design by adding on some strengthening ribs or say a 3mm plate, do you think ???......... Does the Torpoint Ferry still have that steam-driven stand-by with the wooden decks etc ??-----------

Hi PETE------- true, but it's the engineering challenge that I like....... comes from having done my time as a Marine Engineer for the RN I suppose, where space is at a premium and "Enginuity" is the order of the day.. A case of "Physician heal thyself" maybe ??

Hi Alan R. Glad you received ok, hope it didn't get broken in the post.>br/>
3mm should be ok to strengthen, just dont go thicker than the depth of the bolt heads.

Its all a bit tight for space in the albion type....

Maybe you refer to the old steamer " LADY BEATRICE" taken out 1932 replaced by the two new chain guided ferries.... probably broken up by now or sunk by naval gun practice.

cheers gwilly.
