Afternoon all,

The throttle on my 53 bullet is sticking!! When i open it up the slider in the carb doent return to the idle position, any ideas on the cause of this? im thinking that the carb needs a good clean out but dont want to start this if there be another cause. Also i am looking to replace the throttle cable any tips on doing this would be well received.

Thanks in Advance.

Could be a binding inner cable or a weak return spring or a binding carb slide (piston),if you replace the cable use a piece of string to the old and new one. When was the last time the cable was lubed?

Hi guys---Is that a 1953 Bullet or a 2003 Bullet ?? First--what carb is it ??? Next, whereabouts is the slide sticking ?? ie bottom--midway--- top of its' travel. ??..Check the routing especially if it's exiting through the casquette itself as this area can cause a bind (most bikes I've seen have the cable direct from the front of the fuel tank over to the throttle to avoid this )..If you can afford it I recommend a full strip-- an Ultrasonic clean with air-blasting all the drillings, jets etc and re-build with particular attention to the float height settings, and using as many new parts that need it.. including TWO new cables, one for spare in the bikes tool box....Alas, if it's an OLD carb this might be the first sign that it's starting to wear out ( they do you know !!)----Incidentally when re-building, try using a silicone grease spray inside the body and onto the slider itself---- works a treat !!

What Alan says and if its a flange mounted 276 or 376 without the long throat it could be that the Brady has been pulled out of round by over tightening. If you have a small G or F clamp that you can clamp either side of the body, this will quickly show if it is an out of round issue.

If it's an Amal carb then an easy way to find out if it's sticking due to overtightening is to open the throttle so the slide jambs then undo the two nuts a little at a time and if it isthat the slide will suddenly snap shut.
