Hi all - despite considerable upgrades to the clutch on my 2004 Classic Bullet 500cc, it is still producing an unnerving false between 3rd and 2nd when shifting down. It does not happen all the time, which leads me to ask for advice. We have installed the hosts 5 plate upgrade in (this has eliminated all slip), ATF fluid and the clutch pad bearing pressure pad mod. Plus the gearbox cover strenghtening mod and a new cable. None of these has stopped the false neutral, which is not pleasant when you need drive and find there is nothing there! We noticed the clutch drum oscillates quite a bit. Just wondering if this could be the problem? The drum is free of scoring and the bike has only 2000 miles on the clock. Thanks in anticipation.

Why do you think it is a clutch problem ? Sounds more like a gear selection problem.

Yes------- I would agree with that..NORM's your man for adjustments----------when he gets out of that HEAT WAVE down there !!! Can you help us matey !!

Agree, nowt to do with the clutch. Are you being positive enough with the pedal?

Great thanks for the comments - my one concern was that the oscillating drum was resulting in gear shifting due to variable plate lift. I read about the need for positive engagement and might try heavier boots.

Hi Alan,
Bit cooler this morning we have just had 18 days straight in excess of 30c many in the high 30's. WE did about 800ks on the weekend to check some bushfires that have been burning for weeks and will continue burning till the winter rains come in hopefully May. We have had 2 club members who have hit Kangaroos in the last week because it is so dry and they are getting spooked with all the fires
Sofiaspin, sorry for the hijack but 2 things to fiddle with, the adjuster plate, put the bike on the centre stand, slacken the adjuster plate and move it to the end of the slot in either direction and then start selecting through the gears while rotating the rear wheel. If it doesn't select properly, move the adjuster plate in the oposite direction and try again. Keep moving the plate back and forth till it appears to select all gears properly and then give it a road test. Maybe another turn on the detent could help
