Brilliant transformation in the 350 Bitsa. I changed the slide from a 3 1/2 to a 4 on the 1 1/8 389 and re adjusted the idle mixture to a leaner setting and flat spot gone. Moreover there is now this wonderful tractability and smoothness all through the range. The aluminium barrel has now done 500 odd miles so I gave it tweak down the motorway at a sustained 60 mph. Unlike before with the iron barrel rather than being a bit querulous and finicky after a long fast run it was as sweet as a nut. I'm not sure that the slide change was entirely necessary but I obviously had the air screw way too far in and for some reason there was a spot where it would idle ok but would never drop reliably back to the tick over. Had a fang round the hills to the west of Auckland which are semi rural and thought what fun it would be to have a head mounted cam so I could post the ride on YouTube. If such a suction cap secured light weight digital video camera exists I want one.
