Hi boffins......the battery on my Bullet 65 will not stay charged. After charging, which I never had to do, everything works, starter an all, and the alternater is working---ammeter reading good, and headlight brightens with revving engine. But after standing for a day or two, the battery is depleted. Is this the battery old and tired, or a leaky diode, or what? Don't want to replace battery unnecersarily.

If the battery won`t hold charge after using a remote bike battery charger then it`s knackered.Have you a multi/meter ?

Two things you could try. First, with the ignition switch off, disconnect the battery +ve lead and connect an ammeter between the +ve terminal and +ve lead and check to see if there is any current drain. If there is you have a fault. Or disconnect the battery for a couple of days and see if it's gone flat when it's reconnected ,if it is the battery is duff, or if it has helds it's charge the fault is elsewhere. Sounds to me to be the battery,

Hello AL,------ just check that you have the correct rated battery for a Bullet 65...It should be}-- 12v.14AH compared to}-- 12v,5AH but might be the same PHYSICAL size.(those details taken from our hosts on-line parts list)-------------------- How OLD is it ?? If original fitted equipment then just on age alone it's "Sayonara!!"-- on average a lead/acid unit will give 5-7 years ??---- I agree with JAFFA 90, if it's still discharging after a remote/bench charge then it's time for a ----------- CHRISTMAS PRESENT from}--- you, to}--- you !! Just a thought, when remote charging are you disconnecting the battery TOTALLY from the bike ie not clipping the charger onto the battery terminals whilst the battery is still attached and on the bike...Finally, when disconnecting the first of the two battery leads ie the EARTH lead---and with ALL items turned off----is there a small spark ??? If so then you have a fault on the bike somewhere.... PS--- Expect approx price for a new one to be in the £30 area.

Hi, Silly thing but have you any water in the cells of your battery? I have a 2004 Sixty-5 with with origonal battery and i have to top it up twice a year...............Regards Fred

OK lads. Thanks. Fredd W, yes the water is down, daft bugger me. Thought it was a sealed type. Have taken B to my motor factors down the raod, they will charge and test it for me. It's probably knackered, but instead of my often "feck it, fit a new one" lazy attitude, make sure befor shelling out . Big C hols means Santa I probably wont be able to get hold of a new one anyway, so best take it easy.
