Annoyingly enough they were working perfectly before I changed them. Then I put the new on with the wrong bulbs in and had to use the bike in getting to work a couple of days, by the time I got round to re addressing the issue the buzzing had quit altogether and there was no sign of life

Sounds like you have cooked the flasher can somehow, must have earthed it out the globe wattage shouldn't burn it out only makes it flash faster or slower My thoughts are that the new flashers aren't insulated from the frame and you have connected the wires the wrong way round. If you have a meter, remove one and see if it gives a circuit using ohms from one of the wires to the body of the flasher, if so this is the earth wire or -ve.
