After recently having the sprag go followed by the clutch cable, the starter solenoid has today given up the ghost on my Electra. All this on a bike with less than 3000 miles on the clock.I believe the solenoid is another of the Electra's many weaknesses and that a replacement Jap one is a better bet?Does anyone know which model will fit please?

Martin,
Any Japper will be better, try a breaker, but you might have to mod the wires a bit and fit the solonoid so it can't get water in it. The Electra solonoid was fitted with the terminals looking up and they aren't waterproof. You don't hear of problems with the Classic solonoids failing because they were fitted in the toolbox out of the weather

Hi MARTIN B-----------is it still under warranty ?? I realise they might try and con you with "It's a consumable item etc--------------" but go and Kick some --se anyway !! In to day's world this is just NOT ACCEPTABLE by any standard. The least they can do is offer a replacement one !!!!

Thanks Norm.Breakers are a bit thin in the UK as Ebay has killed most of them off.I'm tempted to get a new one from the many aftermarket suppliers that have sprung up.I'll have a look at my Jap bikes and see if any are of a similar size.

Alan R -no such luck with a warranty.I've tried WS in the past and not had any luck. The bike is actually a 2008 model first reg in 2010.

Thanks Ian.

I'm tempted to get rid of the electric boot as well but need to develop my kicking technique first!

Martin, I made mistake of paying WS £42 for the OEM solonoid.
I then saw that eBay sellers have identical item for Honda Goldwing etc for a tenner!
