Hi guys --- was chatting with a younger friend t'other day trying to explain the simple, basic nature of our beloved Bullets re}-- timing, valve events, CR, performance in general etc. and, in a moment of inspiration came up with this little gem of an analogy }----- Using the creation of the world as a time-frame ---- if a current motorcycle GP racing bike is likened to the developed world of to-day, then the Bullet comes in at the Primordial Soup level. Served with crackers, I dare say !! OOpps............. OK, I'm ready, bring it on !!!! Handbags at Dawn??

The primordial soup level of motorcycles is, of course, the horse. The idea of replacing a living animal with two wheels, hooked together with some iron rods is synonimous with the landfall of the amphibians. Letting a engine do the propulsion is probably equivalent to the evolution´s development of the dinosaur. The evolvement of the gasoline engine as best solution is reminiscent of the establishment of the mammal.
The Bullet as a relativly early representative of this species has survived way beyond it´s natural live expectancy due to a special envirionment. Therfore she´s most likely the motorcycle counterpart of a Koala bear. Best regards

Well Alan, you are way off the mark, modern GP racing bikes are anything but at the pinnacle of of the evolutionary tree, current GP rules won't allow that. They are more static than even the Enfield Bullet. No turbo or supercharger, limited fuel load, only six gears etc etc. Think of Moto GP like wrestling, noisy and (to some) exciting but no more than a sideshow, an evolutionary dead end with top flight materials, mechanics and riders but where design ideas and development are artificially stifled. Now, I'm off to join Riggers in the Isle of Man to watch some real racing.

So gp racing would be like pterosaurs and enfield bullets are like crocodelians?
