I would have thought it can be carefully drilled out and all the bits picked out, so as to avoid the concerns about it "self locking". Anyone actually done it? It could then be replaced or just blanked off.

If your steering lock is a Neiman type like mine, simply turning the key in the opposite direction will not remove the barrel - you need to renove the cover plate and rivet first.>>>>> See if this helps :-

Norn: I keep leaving my bike outside, hoping it will be stolen, but next morning there are always a couple of other Enfields parked next to it. So I chained it to the gate; next morning the gate was stolen.
