Real Classic have updated their For Sale section a couple of days ago. First entry is a 2007, 350 Enfield for £1000. Got to be worth a look. If you contact the buyer ask him for his Real Classic Membership Number. Incidentally their website carries the same ads as the magazine, but they generally appear about a week before the mag arrives. It's also worth going back to see if any machines advertised earlier are still available. If they are you would seem to be in a good negotiating position. HTH.

Sab, the REOC has to guard it's records reasonably carefully or the unscrupulous will know exactly how to fool the innocent. You ask how to know if the bike is ok? Well I've been trying to help you but you haven't replied to my questions! I'll help (and I'm sure others will help too if it's their field,) so post those adverts and pictures!

Thanks Mark. On the 500 their advert was taken down off the preloved site and it hasn't appeared again, so I couldn't give you that link. On the 350 I asked about the frame and engine numbers for, here is the link: http://www.trade-it.co.uk/motorcycles/r ... 73294.html

It's a dilemma of course, because if I post adverts it means others reading this might grab a bargain before me!

I understand your point about REOC guarding the records.

Sab, the bike shown in the link http://www.trade-it.co.uk/motorcycles/r ... 73294.html IS a genuine 1955 350. The frame has an unusual cast swinging arm pivot bracket that is specific to the 1955 model, the engine does not have fins on the oil tank, it has no auto advance bulge and a square oil pump which marks it out as a pre 1956 350. I'm not sure if the forks are original, but it looks like a genuine old bike.

Hello MIDGE, SIMON & co.--------- with regards to this 350 mentioned earlier----http://www.motorcyclesupermarket.com/bi ... 4--------- I've had a reply from them and they give these details}-----REG. No. = TEU 152 C,..FRAME = G2/59591....ENG. = 59591.....does that seem OK to you guys ?? I'm sure some of you Midlands-based lads will recognise this Black Country shop in Tipton ??

I'm no sort of authority on the finer points of bike dating but I thought G2 was a Reddich prefix and that Reddich frames didn't have the bolt together section in front of the seat down tube. This looks like a Madras Bullet to me with some period looking parts. I stand to be corrected though.

TEU 152C DVLA says Date of Liability 01 08 2012 Date of First Registration 04 11 1997 Year of Manufacture 1965 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 349cc Export Marker N Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour RED So how are those 32 missing years accounted for?

Would this be Black Country Motorcycles of Tipton? If so, this is where my 500 Lightning came from. Very nice and helpful people. They even E-Mailed a copy of the bikes paperwork before I decided if I wanted to buy or not. I should point out (in the case of my Lightning) that I was buying a bike on a comission basis as the Lightning (one of a pair) didn't actually belong to the shop. It is possible that this bike is being sold on comission. But then again,it could be a part exchange bike and is being sold on the information passed on by the previous owner. As for the 'missing 32 years', that's easy. The bike is wearing an age related plate.

Sab, thanks for the link. That bike looks ok to me although some photos of the other side would help. It has the 53-55 "cast lug" frame, the correct oval airfilter, the new for 54 flat side gearbox and Monobloc carb. The colour is right too and it even has fitted pannier frames (a pair of these went for £117 on ebay recently!) so altogether a nice find. Budget some extra money for a possible carb re-furb and magneto and dynamo work just in case but it looks pretty sound. The price seems fair. I'd say it dates from late 54 or early 55 (that is, 1955 model year.) judging by the earlier push over exhaust stub at the head. Let us know how it goes!
