I'm going too fit the old style tea caddy air filter on my bike to free up the tool box for yes you guessed Tools. Its a traditional 500 Enfield Bullet iron Barrel 05 model At the moment it has a Goldstar Exhaust and round filter in the Tool box. At present its running perfect if anything Its slightly on the rich side could someone tell me if I would need to re jet or modify the carb in anyway like lifting the needle a notch. Many thanks.

Hi paul --------- You don't say what carb you have but just fit it and see how it goes. By itself it will tend to weaken things but your slight richness should counteract that.On my 2005 Classic I have a Tea-caddy feeding a VM8 carb. and semi-freeflow exhaust system. Jetting is standard (as per our hosts catalogue) with the needle clip in the No.4 position---No.1 being the top recess, and a No3 slide. Points at 0.015" and an irridium plug fired from a standard coil. Seems ok so far---tendency to hunt a little downhill in mid-throttle but plug reads ok with approx 70mpg overall. Be guided by the plug readings and err on the "brown side".

Hi thanks Alan R Sorry forgot too mention its the standard Mikcarb VM28. But I did change the Jets and Carb slide to a 2.5 when I fitted the exhaust a few years ago but cant remember what jets I used but it was a few up on standard the needle in in the Middle slot from memory at present. As I say its slightly rich at present so I will give a try like that. Many Thanks Paul.

There isn't a deal if difference in resistance between the two filters - I should just try it with the jets you have and check the plug. What you will find is rather more induction noise but, then, with a Goldie "silencer" fitted you might not notice.
