hi all, little while ago put on forum about fuses blowing, took your advice many thanks  put on mini blades from our hosts brill.today went for a ride to selsey bill about 12 mile from home, on my return started her up 1991 500 bullet the sod would not run, alright on tick over.no throttle though blew the 20amp fuse in the end replaced tock cap off plug. started her away she went again  could it be coil trouble or carb or timing or the bloody lot help many thanks phil ps seat cover from our hosts was brill time for another beer

Glad you were able to get her started to get home Phil. This does sound a bit of a puzzling fault, I have multimeter etc here if you need to use it.

    New fuse holder won't fix the problem, just eliminates a potential other problem. You obviously have an intermitent short somewhere and that can be hard to find.Can't recall ever hearing of a short in a coil but not impossible.I think that if this was a problem replacing the fuse wouldn't fix it. My guess would be a wire up near the headlight somewhere touching the frame when you turn the handlebars, or if it is a later model one check the wires into the pilot lights because the fittings are crappy and easily cut the insulation and short out

Take a close look at the ammeter and the brake, throttle cable ETC to ensure that the plastic cover has not worn through and shorting on the ammeter studs.
