On a short ride this morning, the long bolt holding the battery cover shut must have vibrated out so I lost the trunnion and bolt. Luckily I felt the cover swinging downwards on my leg otherwise I think I would have lost the battery as well. Looking at the parts list, there should be a spring to give the bolt something to hold against, I've never had one of those which might explain the loss.

Hi Midge - mine had a spring but still vibrated loose. I've now converted mine to the old style Lucas  battery box to give a more authentic appearance. It still has the bolt and trunnion but doesn't seem to vibrate as much now, due I guess to the changed geometry.
