Hoping Paul M H Catches this thread. I decided to try an improve my TLS front brake in the light of your recent posting on the Brake Fade thread. Been fitting the HD cable but been having trouble routing it through the holes on the nacelle. My bike is a 2001 Classic 500. The cable WILL go through but because it's so much thicker than standard there doesn't seem to be enough distance between the nacelle hole and the brake lever. The 'S' turn needed seems too much.

Anyone come across the same problem? All suggestions thankfully REceived.

I suppose it depends on the position your handle bars are in as in pushed forward or back a bit and what type of handle bars you have fitted. On my bike I have Ace Bars fitted with the type of leavers without adjusters and routing the cable was not problem.

Hi tony. i expect you've checked the length of the new cable against the old.. also that you have a minda control lever and minda cable. No adjuster at lever end. mines a 02 model and the cable i have fitted is 145298H  the distance between the lever outer stop and the naselle hole is 16.5cm. there should be no "S" shape in the cable route. It passes across the nacelle behind the reflector and down through a drilled hole in the bottom left of the lower tree. Thereon down the stanchion via a rubber ring effort that stops it flopping about the wheel, then into the brake adjuster. I did however reroute the throttle cable elsewhere as i didnt like the way it bent inside the naselle, throttle didnt always spring back cleanly. hope this helps. gwilly

Paul mentions handlebars; I replaced the bars on my year 2000 Classic 500 with slightly lower, flatter ones. Which do you have?

I certainly think the lower ones made for better routing. Part of my reason was my ability to break clutch cables. They route a lot better with the flat bars.... but I can still break them quite often.....

Thanks guys. The cable I ordered is 143321H - Minda levers with adjusters. Because of the adjusters there's not enough distance between the adjuster and the hole in the nacelle. But Gwilly you've given me an idea! I MIGHT be able to get away with removing the adjuster altogether and simply use the one on the fork leg.

I get my wheel back from the tyre fitter tomorrow so I'll post again then. Fingers X'd.

Success! Now the brake is fitted and the cable under tention it routes into the nacelle without any serious kinks.

The jury is still out on its effectiveness and that of the new 'high grip' shoes as I guess everything will have to bed in. Initial thoughts are that it's a bit better but nothing startling, and (so far) not worth the 50 quid or so it's cost. If I have cause to change my mind I'll post again.

Thanks for comments guys.
